YW-CAre (After-School Care)

YW-CAre is a licensed childcare program providing education and recreation activities for pre-K through 5th-grade children. The mission of the YW-CAre programs is to engage youth in activities that promote personal responsibility and positive life choices, while providing working parents a safe, affordable alternative to leaving children home alone.

YW-CAre operates each afternoon during the school year at more than 30 neighborhood elementary schools, serving up to 1,000 children daily. Children may enroll at anytime during the school year. Financial assistance is available to income-eligible families.

YW-CAre employs approximately 200 local college students as counselors. The YWCA earned the title “Best Place to Work” in a survey by the Daily Toreador, the Texas Tech student newspaper.

Early Release Days
Lubbock ISD asked YW-CAre to provide care for children beginning at noon on 14 staff development days at our YW-CAre sites as well as several middle schools. See below for a list of schools, and click here for more information about the program.
